The world map in Klejtrup

In our family, we have a tradition of visiting the World Map every year. The little ones thought it was fun to jump around between the stones and got a sense that the world is bigger than the part they know. As the years go by, they gain an understanding of the continents and the different countries. It's fun and educational to hop around between the countries they have visited and where they know people from.

But the world map is also so much more than just hopping around on the world map. Mini golf is also a fixed tradition and game in their lovely garden with stilts walking, clapping goats, and plenty of traditional games. And of course, an ice cream and a picnic basket.

The Creation of the World Map

The world map was created by Søren Poulsen, who was born back in 1888. He lived in America for several years, but then returned home to his childhood home by Klejtrup Lake. The project started when, during drainage of the nearby meadows, a stone appeared that resembled Jutland. At this moment, the idea for the creation of the World Map sprouted. But it was difficult to push the heavy stones into place alone. Therefore, they were pushed out onto the ice in winter and pushed to where they were approximately supposed to be. When the ice melted, they were pushed completely into place. Søren was a mature gentleman when he began to create the World Map. The world map is such a place you should visit on a lovely summer day. Mr. Madkurven, find a bench and let the children play around. We usually spend several hours there. For older children, it's the mini-golf course that attracts them, and for the younger children, it's just everything. For everyone without children in the group, the World Map itself is also worth the trip, followed by a round of mini-golf.

There is a cafe at the place where you can buy sandwiches, burgers, salads, starshots, nuggets, and so on. And then they offer banquet halls and delicious menus with a view of the whole world.

Our tip for the world map

  1. Pak madkurven.
  2. Remember the sunscreen.
  3. Bring dry clothes and especially dry socks.
  4. Slow down the pace and see it as an excursion.
  5. Listen to the exciting stories about Søren Poulsen.
