GLAD Zoo

I took my 5-year-old daughter to GLAD Zoo during Easter 2024. Her favorite animal is a dhole – the Asian wild dog. And as the only zoo in Denmark, you can see dolphins at GLAD Zoo. We could have chosen zoos closer to home, but seeing a dole was the biggest dream. Besides that experience, GLAD Zoo was worth the total 4-hour drive, alone in the car with a 5-year-old.

A small zoo with close-up animal experiences

GLAD Zoo offers immersive animal experiences. The parking is manageable. There are 80 animal species. Among them, the animals are generally smaller animals, so this is not where you will encounter giraffes, rhinoceroses, and lions. But this is where you encounter 80 different animal species that even small children do not become afraid of. They are small and intimate world-class animal experiences. My daughter was completely crazy about the funny prairie dogs, which were very active and dug many holes. And she was very pleased to be able to go in and out among the kangaroos and deer. It was also a huge plus that the park wasn't larger, so she could quickly remember on her own which direction her favorite animals were in when she wanted to visit them again and again.

A lot of play

After all, few 5-year-olds are willing to look at animals all day. Therefore, it was perfect that there were smaller scattered playgrounds in the park. There, they jumped on the trampoline, swung, and slid. And she spent a whole hour in the big sandbox at the entrance filled with sand toys. It was a place where you slow down completely and just be. We spent 5 hours in the park and could have easily spent more. With older children, it will probably be a shorter zoo experience.

The practical

You can buy food in the package, mainly sausages and nuggets. We chose to bring a packed lunch, and there were many good places to sit and enjoy the food park. Ice cream can also be purchased. And there is a large selection of stuffed animals.

A special zoo in a good way

GLAD Zoo is owned by the GLAD Foundation, which operates various companies, all based on close collaboration between people with and without disabilities. Glad Zoo contributes to the education of young people with special needs through internship and learning programs as part of the STU education. The employees include both people with and without disabilities. Therefore, you can also have a special service experience at GLAD Zoo, which also makes the experience completely unique. The place greatly encompasses special conditions and differences. Therefore, we also highly recommend the place as a travel destination for people of all ages with special conditions or people who need clear, spacious, and recognizable experiences.

A minimum of 5 years old will undoubtedly want to return. And we will definitely do that before she gets so big that the larger zoos attract more visitors.

And what about the dollars. They thought she was a bit inactive, so it wasn't the highlight of the trip. The prairie dogs, on the other hand, did. We visited him many times.
