You have certainly often seen Fredensborg Palace on TV. Many major events in the royal family are held here, and many foreign heads of state are received here. And this is where Queen Margrethe stays in spring and autumn.

You can see the castle from the outside all year round. And not least, take a walk in the fantastic Fredensborg Palace Garden – one of the largest Baroque complexes in Denmark. In July, you can see the castle from the inside and the Royal Garden, which is the royal family's private garden.

Fredensborg Palace and the Reserved Garden

Fredensborg Palace was originally built as a pleasure palace for Frederik II. 4.. The castle was completed in 1722 and Fredensborg Palace Church in 1726. The castle contains a number of iconic halls and rooms, including the Dome Hall and the Baroque Dining Room. At Fredensborg Palace, it has been a tradition for selected guests to perform inscriptions on the palace's windows. You can, among other things, find Churchill's signature carved into one of the windows.

The reserved garden is the royal family's garden all year round. Dogs are allowed except in July, when visitors can visit the garden as well as guided tours of the castle are offered. It is free to visit the Reserved Garden in July. The tours of the castle cost money. In the Reserved Garden, you can see the many garden layouts of the royal family. Children will love the maze at the far end of the garden. Also take a look inside the princes' old playhouse.

Fredensborg Palace Garden

Enjoy a walk along the beautiful avenues, enjoy the view over Esrum Lake, experience Nordmandsdalen, and see the large old trees. Fredensborg Palace Park is large and a perfect place for a longer walk. A trip to Fredensborg Palace should include Nordmandsdalen, Brede Allé with a view of the palace on one side and Esrum Lake on the other side, and a walk along the front of the palace. At the southwestern corner of the Marina, you will find the Skipper House and one of Denmark's coziest ice cream shops by Esrum Lake. Skipperhuset is a restaurant that serves Danish and Nordic inspired food. In summer, you can go sailing with Bådfarten Esrum Sø.

In Nordmandsdalen, you will find 68 sandstone figures depicting Norwegian and Faroese farmers and fishermen.
